2021 Floating Home Champion - David Messier
David Messier
David Messier is a BC licensed New Home Builder and Developer, is responsible for designing and building “The Float Home Community at Maple Bay” which currently provides positive concrete floating dock frontage for 20 float homes and its owners. Maple Bay Marina was established in 1945. In 2000 David purchased the marina and its existing float home settlement with the vision and desire to create a destination for uniquely designed float homes.
To properly support this dynamic and growing lifestyle, David initiated and completed several necessary and critical projects. These included upgrading the hydro power supply for J-Dock (Float Home Resident Dock), and the construction and installation of a 400 linear-foot concrete positive floatation dock, suitable for 20 homes, with the capability of providing hydro, sewer, telephone and internet all within the floating dock compartments.
The marina constructed a Class ‘A’ Effluent Treatment Facility (ETA) on site and requires all float homes to be equipped with or install a proper holding tank with sewage macerator capability. The ETA also services boaters with an environmentally preferred waste pump out station on their fuel dock. This and use of Environmental Best Practice procedures at the marina allowed Maple Bay Marina to earn its Clean Marine BC & Eco Rated Marina Certification.
David and his wife Carol are fully hands-on with the marina operation to provide transient and fulltime moorage to sail and power boat owners as well as vessel haul out capability and marine services.
David is active in the local community involved with The Maple Bay Community Association, a member of the Duncan - Cowichan Chamber of Commerce, The BC Boating Association, and has served on the North Cowichan Economic Development Committee.
David’s tireless work to enhance the quality and image of floating home communities on Vancouver Island make him a deserving recipient of the 2021 Floating Home Champion Award.
